Convert

There is no single official worldwide conversion formula. Each university, employer, or evaluation body sets its own rules for translating foreign grades, so the same transcript can convert differently depending on who is reviewing it. Any converter result should be treated as an estimate, not a guarantee.

The U.S. typically uses a 4.0 scale, but many countries use very different systems — India often uses a 10-point CGPA, Germany runs 1.0 (best) to 5.0 (fail), and the U.K. uses honours classifications like First and 2:1. Because higher numbers can mean better or worse depending on the country, you can’t compare raw figures without a proper conversion.

It’s a formal report from a recognized agency that reviews your foreign transcripts and states their U.S. (or other national) equivalent, including degree level and GPA. Universities and licensing boards often require one from a member of an association such as NACES, because a self-calculated conversion isn’t accepted as official.

Both measure English proficiency for academic admission, but IELTS is scored on a 0–9 band scale and offers a face-to-face speaking section, while TOEFL iBT is scored 0–120 and is taken entirely on a computer. Most universities accept either, though you should check which one your program prefers and its minimum required score.
