To find the days until a date, subtract the starting date from your target. From 1 January to 25 December 2026 is 358 days — about 51 weeks or 11.8 months. If the target has already passed, the same subtraction turns negative, which this tool reports as days ago.
Counting down to any date
This is a general-purpose countdown: point it at a birthday, a holiday, a wedding, a visa deadline, or a launch date, and it tells you exactly how many days stand between today and that date. The headline number is the days remaining, with weeks and approximate months underneath so you can size the wait at a glance.
Dates in the past are handled too. Pick a date that has already gone by and the count flips to days ago — useful for anniversaries or working out how long since something happened. You can also change the “counting from” date to measure the gap between any two dates rather than from today.
A positive result is days until; a negative result is days ago. Both dates are compared at UTC midnight so a daylight-saving change never adds or drops a day.
- 1 Choose the target date. For example, a holiday on 25 December 2026.
- 2 Set the start date. It defaults to today, but you can pick any other day to count from — say 1 January 2026.
- 3 Subtract the start from the target. From 1 January to 25 December 2026 is 358 days (an exclusive count of the gaps between the two dates).
- 4 Read the sub-units. 358 ÷ 7 ≈ 51.1 weeks, and 358 ÷ 30.44 ≈ 11.8 months. The tool shows these automatically.

Inclusive vs exclusive counting
This tool counts exclusively: it measures the gaps between the two dates, so today to tomorrow is 1 day, not 2. That matches how most countdowns work — “3 days until the exam” means three sleeps away. If you need both endpoints counted (an inclusive count, such as “how many days am I on holiday” when you count both the arrival and departure day), add 1 to the result.
Weekends and holidays are included. The figure is calendar days, so it counts every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday in the span. If you only care about working days between now and a deadline, use the business days calculator instead, which skips weekends for you.
