Business Days Calculator
Count the working days (Monday to Friday) between two dates, minus any holidays.
Enter a start and end date to count the working days between them.
Counting Monday to Friday inclusive gives 5 business days; weekends and holidays don’t count. For example, Monday 5 January to Friday 16 January 2026 spans 12 calendar days — 2 of them a weekend — leaving 10 business days. Subtract any public holidays in that range to get your true working-day total.
What counts as a business day
A business day (or working day) is any weekday — Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded, and so are public holidays that fall on a weekday. This calculator counts both endpoints, so a range that starts and ends on the same working day counts as 1 business day. Enter a start date, an end date, and optionally the number of weekday holidays in the range; the tool reports the total calendar days, the weekend days, and the working days left over.
Whole weeks contribute 5 working days each; the leftover days are counted one by one, then holidays are removed.
- 1 Count the calendar days inclusively. From Monday 5 January to Friday 16 January 2026 is 12 days when you count both endpoints.
- 2 Remove the weekend days. That span contains one Saturday and one Sunday, so subtract 2 weekend days: 12 − 2 = 10 weekdays.
- 3 Subtract weekday holidays. If one public holiday falls on a weekday inside the range, take it off: 10 − 1 = 9 business days.
- 4 Read the result. The headline shows the working days; the sub-stats show total days, weekend days, and holidays applied.
How each day type affects the count
Only Monday–Friday count toward business days; weekends and weekday holidays are removed.
| Day type | Counts as a business day? | Effect on the total |
|---|---|---|
| Monday – Friday | Yes | Adds 1 working day each |
| Saturday | No | Counted as a weekend day, not working |
| Sunday | No | Counted as a weekend day, not working |
| Holiday on a weekday | No (once subtracted) | Removes 1 working day per holiday you enter |
| Holiday on a weekend | Already excluded | No extra effect — don’t enter it as a holiday |
Notes and edge cases
Both endpoints count. Business-day ranges are usually inclusive, so 5 January to 5 January (a Monday) is 1 business day, and Monday to Friday of the same week is 5. If you need an exclusive count that ignores the start day, subtract 1.
Holidays are yours to supply. Public holidays differ by country, region, and year, so the tool never assumes a calendar. Count how many holidays actually fall on a weekday inside your range and enter that number. A holiday landing on a Saturday or Sunday is already excluded, so leave it out.
Weekends only. This tool treats every Saturday and Sunday as non-working. If your working week differs — for example a Sunday–Thursday week — the raw weekday count won’t match your schedule.
