A fraction, decimal, and percent are the same value in three forms. Divide a fraction to get its decimal, then multiply by 100 for the percent: 3/8 = 3 ÷ 8 = 0.375 = 37.5%. Reverse the steps — divide the percent by 100, then write the decimal over a power of ten and reduce — to go back.
Three ways to write the same value
3/8, 0.375, and 37.5% are the same number wearing three costumes. Moving between them is a core skill for test scores, statistics, cooking, and finance. The link is simple: a fraction is a division, a decimal is its result, and a percent is that decimal times 100.

Worked example
Convert 3/8 to a decimal and a percent, then back again:
- 1 Fraction → decimal. Divide: 3 ÷ 8 = 0.375.
- 2 Decimal → percent. Multiply by 100: 0.375 × 100 = 37.5%.
- 3 Decimal → fraction (reverse). 0.375 = 375/1000; divide both by gcd = 125 to get 3/8. ✓

Terminating vs. repeating decimals
From decimal back to a fraction. A terminating decimal becomes a fraction over a power of ten, then reduces — 0.375 = 375/1000 = 3/8 after dividing by the greatest common divisor.
Some fractions repeat. 2/3 = 0.6666… and 1/7 = 0.142857… never terminate. A fraction terminates only when its reduced denominator has no prime factors other than 2 and 5.
Percent just shifts the decimal. Multiplying by 100 moves the point two places right: 0.375 → 37.5%. Dividing by 100 moves it back.
